A University of Winnipeg student's video appeared on Ellen Tuesday, putting her in line for a $10,000 prize.
Kirsten Kettler, 18, cuts an apple in half with her head in the YouTube video, which Ellen DeGeneres, the talk-show host, used in Ellen's Amazing Human Talent Contest.
At first, Kettler thought a friend was pulling a prank on her when she heard from the Ellen show that her video was to be used. But excitement took over when the show's offer turned out to be true, she said.
"One of my goals has been to get on her show," Kettler said Wednesday. "My next goal is to get physically on her show... It'd be awesome."
Also appearing with Kettler's apple hijinks was a woman from Minnesota who could laugh on command and a woman who ran on all fours and jumped over fences like a horse.
Kettler first learned how to crack an apple in half with her head during a moment of boredom at lunch, she said.
"It's a talent I acquired a couple of years ago," she said. "I went to a student-exchange program in Quebec, and they always had apples to eat. About four or five of us got really good at it."
