Ex-Beausejour funeral-home operator charged

  • Print

A former Beausejour funeral-home operator faces more than two dozen fraud charges over allegations he collected payment for pre-arranged funerals but didn't use the funds for the intended purpose.

The 53-year-old man, who now resides in Alberta, operated Russell's Funeral Home at the time of the alleged offences between October 2003 and July 2009.

He was served a summons on Sept. 16 and is scheduled to make his first appearance in Beausejour provincial court on Oct. 22.

The RCMP investigation began in July 2009 when police learned of financial irregularities at the business.

Harvey Giesbrecht faces 25 charges, including 18 counts of fraud under $5,000 and seven counts of fraud over $5,000.
