THE city's second shooting homicide victim this week was the older brother of a teenage girl found dead in a creek three years ago.
Winnipeg police said Jordan Dennis Houle, 24, died from injuries he received after being shot just after midnight Saturday in the 600 block of Maryland Street.
Houle was identified in news reports as the older brother of Cherisse Houle, 17, whose body was found in a creek in the RM of Rosser, about 16 kilometres west of Winnipeg. RCMP described her death as suspicious but no arrests have been made.
Winnipeg police said Jordan Houle was with another young man, 19, Saturday when they were both shot.
Houle's companion ran off despite being wounded but was found by police nearby. Houle was taken to hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries, becoming Winnipeg's 23rd homicide.
The 19-year-old man was taken to hospital in serious condition but was later upgraded to stable.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police at 204-986-6508 or Winnipeg Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
Police said there is no connection between the Saturday-morning shootings and the brazen execution-style shooting that took place early Thursday morning at the Salisbury House restaurant at Stafford Street and Pembina Highway, where one man was killed and another injured. Jeffrey Lau, 23, died from his injuries. A 22-year-old man is in stable condition. There have been no arrests.
