Father and daughter cold, but OK after icy plunge

A father and daughter whose truck went through the ice of Lake Winnipeg Saturday morning just picked up the phone and let the RCMP know about it once they were safely home in the RM of Rockwood.

"We didn't attend. We got a phone call to dispatch from the people who went through the ice," RCMP Sgt. Line Karpish said Sunday. "Right now, it's an Autopac thing.

"He was calling his insurance company and arranging for a tow truck," said Karpish.

Karpish said the two were going ice fishing about 10:15 a.m. Saturday when they broke through the ice. They'd driven onto the ice from Warner Road at Chalet Beach.

"Let it serve as a reminder that there are some areas on Lake Winnipeg that the ice isn't very thick. A tragedy can happen very quickly," Karpish said.
