Garage fire scene of earlier standoff

FIREFIGHTERS safely extinguished a garage fire that sent plumes of smoke over the North End at about 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
Three fire trucks were called to the fire in the 700-block of Pritchard Avenue, near the intersection of Arlington Street, according to an initial report at the scene. No one was injured in the fire. The cause remains under investigation.
The burning garage was behind the same house that was the scene of a tense standoff on Feb. 18. That situation ended with the Winnipeg Police tactical response unit entering the house and arresting people.
