Girl, 7, dies in head-on crash
Stretch of road prone to collisions, residents say

A seven-year-old girl who was a passenger in a minivan that crashed on Academy Road late Tuesday night died from her injuries Wednesday afternoon.
The van, which contained a woman, a man and three young children, was eastbound on Academy just after 11 p.m. when it collided head-on with a sport-utility vehicle, Winnipeg police said.
Two children were taken to hospital in critical condition Tuesday evening while the driver of the van, an adult passenger and a third child were in stable condition.
The male driver of the SUV was treated at the scene.
No charges have been laid in the crash and Winnipeg Police Service spokeswoman Patrol Sgt. Monica Stothers said Wednesday speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
Residents along Academy Road said Wednesday there have been several collisions on the road where it bends near Wilton Street. They say westbound vehicles have lost control and ended up in their front yards.
"We've lived here 31/2 years and there have been three accidents," Karen Dufault said.
Dufault said vehicles going too fast lose control at the bend, either ending up driving across her yard or crashing into property across the street.
"Cars are just going too fast and they lose control," another neighbour said. "I know this is a busy street, but it's not a highway. They come speeding around the corner and if it was wet like it was Tuesday night, they lose control and drive into somebody else or into someone else's property."
