Snakes on a plain

Learn more about Manitoba's snakes, and get up close and personal with a red-sided garter snake. Part of a series of free family theme days for kids ages four to 12. Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. (two sessions) at Living Prairie Museum, 2795 Ness Ave. Space is limited; early registration is encouraged. To register, call (204) 832-0167.

Prairie cleanup

Volunteer to help clean-up old farm debris and wire fencing on a 160-acre property at the Tall Grass Prairie Reserve, 60 minutes south of Winnipeg. Saturday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organized by the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Lunch and refreshments available.
