Harvest reaps record take at auction

WINNIPEG Harvest realized a record $314,600 from its seventh annual Empty Bowls Celebrity Auction on Tuesday.

The sold-out fundraising evening at the Delta Winnipeg included a simple meal of soup and breads during bidding for bowls painted and/or decorated by celebrities. The bowl painted by movie star Meryl Streep went for $1,700.

A followup event, the Empty Bowls Soup-er Lunch, featuring local bowls decorated by media personalities and celebrities, takes place Nov. 8 at the MTS Centre.
