The province has issued a high-wind warning for the south basin of Lake Winnipeg for both today and Sunday, urging property owners to take precautions.
North winds are forecast to increase through the day Saturday, reaching up to 65 kilometres per hour Sunday morning. The winds are forecast to diminish late Sunday.
Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation also issued a moderate wind warning for the south basin of Lake Manitoba.
Wind speed and direction could raise levels by more than a metre along the south shore of Lake Winnipeg and between 0.3 and 0.6 metres on the south shore of Lake Manitoba, according to the department's hydrologic forecasting and water management centre. The winds could also produce big waves, it said.
