Official Facebook iPad app coming

It's always struck me as odd that Facebook never developed an application for the iPad. Even my alarm clock has a Facebook app. Currently you can use the iPhone Facebook app on the iPad, but it's very pixelated. Other companies have created Facebook apps, but nothing of exceptional quality.

According to the New York Times, there is a new app coming that "has a slick design that has been tailored for the iPad and its touchscreen interface." That source also has made other claims that the chatting feature of Facebook is also going to see a major overhaul and will be improved for the iPad app.

It's funny, the reason Mark Zuckerberg never previously developed a Facebook app for the iPad is because he claimed that it wasn't "mobile" enough to deserve an app. Hopefully we will see the Facebook iPad app soon.

LaCie hard drive review

A while back I purchased a 2-terabyte LaCie hard drive. Its job would be specifically backing up my entire system, keeping my data safe. As soon as I installed it, things worked great. But the next time I backed up, it didn't want to work. The hard drive wasn't responding, and when it did it could never complete the system backup. I tried troubleshooting, but the sub-$200 hard drive I had purchased 32 days earlier didn't want to work anymore. Hmmm.

I'm not a fan of this specific hard drive. I'd much rather stick to my old hard drive, the Western Digital. It works like a charm, and is reliable 100 per cent of the time; unlike my LaCie hard drive. If you are in the market, I'd recommend going with Western Digital's line of products.

BlackBerry sees bad Q1 sales, resulting in layoffs

THOUGH the BlackBerry is Canada's most popular smartphone, RIM hasn't been doing so hot lately. Their sales have been low lately, and this has resulted in numerous layoffs at the company.

CEO Jim Balsillie says, "Fiscal 2012 has gotten off to a challenging start. The slowdown we saw in the first quarter is continuing into Q2, and delays in new product introductions into the very late part of August is leading to a lower than expected outlook in the second quarter."

The company supposedly has shipped (not sold) 13.2 million smartphones, and 500,000 PlayBooks. RIM's Q1 results were a net income of $695 million, down from $769 million in the same quarter last year.

Times are tough for Balsillie, and you know how sad I'll be, given my love for Apple products. Here's a little poem I wrote for the occasion. "Roses are red, violets are blue, Blackberrys suck, go buy an iPhone."

Mac OS X Lion -- details

LION is the code name for Mac's new operating system. Its predecessors have been other great cats such as Snow Leopard, Cheetah, and Leopard. Lion is going to be released this July.

So what's new about this cat? Well the software is going to cost $29 and cannot be bought in a store... Lion is only going to be available in the Mac App store for download. That's a neat feature if you ask me; no big lineups at Apple! You will download the operating system, then it will automatically install for you.

Lion will have over 250 new features, the OS incorporates things such as a ton of multi-touch features and full-screen apps, plus Mission Control, which further details Exposé and Spaces, and a new application launcher called Launchpad. Lion also comes with a new auto-save feature, and AirDrop which is a peer-to-peer file sharing system, pretty much DropBox with a Apple logo on it.

Lion is going to be one heck of an upgrade, and I hope it is a success.

Scented USB hard drives... oh jeepers

TECHNOLOGY is weird; this time, it's really weird. Maxell has released a new product called Aroma Drive. It's a line of scented USB flash hard drives. At first, you may think they are a Glade plug-in for your computer, but no -- they are just regular USB hard drives with a scent.

Why would someone buy a scented hard drive? I'm not sure, but the USB drives are available in 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB, Apple, Strawberry, Chocolate, Lemon, Orange, and Mint. They sell for $15 and up. Maybe my LaCie hard drive would've received a better review if it were scented. Maybe not.
