Icelandic-brand beer coming to Manitoba in late March

ICELANDIC-brand beer is coming to Manitoba, and 30,000 people who trace their ancestry to there should be happy.

The first shipments of Egils Gull premium lager and Olvisholt Brugghus Lava are set to be on shelves at the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission by late March, it was announced Friday.

The deal was arranged by Fitumi Trading Co., a Toronto-based importing company.

However, imbibers will have to wait until next year to partake in Iceland's annual Beer Day. That's on March 1.

Egils Gull premium lager, available since 1989, is the brewery's flagship brand, and is now one of the most popular beers in Iceland.

Olvisholt Brugghus Lava, a smoked imperial stout (9.4% alcohol) is a full-bodied, pitch black beer with a thick brown head and sweet with chocolate and roasted malt in the flavour.
