In Brief
Altercation ends in stabbing
ONE man is in hospital with stab wounds and another man is in custody following an altercation in the North End early Tuesday morning.
Winnipeg police said two men were at a residence in the 700 block of Magnus Avenue just before 1 a.m. Tuesday when an argument broke out. A 21-year-old man is alleged to have then stabbed a 41-year-old man in the upper body.
Officers found the victim near the intersection of Parr Street and Burrows Avenue. He was taken to hospital in stable condition.
The 21-year-old man was found in front of the residence on Magnus Avenue, where he was taken into custody.
No charges have yet been laid but the incident is under investigation.
Two killed in rollovers
RCMP reported two fatalities as a result of rollovers that happened the same day in different parts of the province.
Sprague RCMP and emergency crews were dispatched about 11:15 p.m. Friday night after a single vehicle was reported to have rolled over on Road 64 East, south of Road 24 North in the RM of Piney.
Piney is 150 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.
The lone driver, identified as a 40-year-old area man, was found dead near the vehicle.
It appears the driver lost control of the vehicle on the gravel road and rolled. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The other fatality, also reported Monday, occurred Friday afternoon in the Interlake area near Ste. Rose du Lac.
A 42-year-old woman died a few hours after her vehicle rolled and landed in a ditch on Highway 276, about two kilometres north of Magnet, which is about 300 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
Emergency crews were called to the scene about 2 p.m.
The victim was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The victims' names in both accidents were not released.
Thompson fire suspicious
ARSON is suspected in a house fire Monday in Thompson, estimated to have caused $225,000 damage.
The McGill Place residence was not occupied at the time of the fire, which was reported about 4 p.m., RCMP said. No injuries were reported.
Evidence at the scene indicates the fire was deliberately set, RCMP said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Thompson RCMP at (204) 677-6909.
