Plane crashes at Manitou

A small plane crashed about 8 p.m. Wednesday near Manitou.

Details on passengers and injuries had not been released at press time.

The community's fire department and emergency services joined Manitou RCMP at the scene. The Transportation Safety Board has agreed to assist with the investigation, an RCMP release said. Manitou is about 170 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg.

 

Camp renamed for donors

THE YMCA-YWCA has changed Camp Y's name to Camp Douglas to honour one of its donor families, the Winnipeg YMCA-YWCA has announced.

The camp, near Woodlands about 34 kilometres north of Winnipeg, was renamed in honour of longtime camp supporters Bryce and Nicki Douglas and their family. The Douglas family made a generous donation to the YMCA-YWCA's last Camp for Kids capital campaign, the organization said.

 

Two arrested in break-ins

TWO teenage boys were taken into custody Tuesday afternoon following a break-and-enter spree in Wolseley.

Winnipeg police said between 3:30 p.m. and 5: 30 p.m.,Tuesday, homes were broken into on Wolseley Avenue, Sprague Street, Basswood Place and Dominion Street.

Police were called when neigbours saw suspects breaking into the Dominion Street home. Both boys, 13 and 15, have been charged with five counts of break and enter.

 

Future Shop fire probed

A fire broke out at the back of the Future Shop on Leila Avenue early Wednesday morning.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 3:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Leila Avenue, where they battled a fire at the rear door of the store.

No one was hurt. There is an estimated $10,000 in damage. The arson strike force is investigating.
