Molson Street getting two more lanes
THE city plans to spend $7.4 million to widen part of Molson Street to reduce traffic congestion.
At a pre-budget announcement Monday, officials said two lanes will be added to Molson Street between Munroe Avenue and just north of Concordia Avenue.
Mayor Sam Katz said there have been hundreds of new homes built in the area, and turning left from Molson to Concordia is causing traffic delays. The move is also expected to improve travel for ambulances going to Concordia Hospital.
Police officer fired gun in confrontation
A Winnipeg police officer fired his weapon in a confrontation with a break-in suspect in Transcona, but no injuries were reported and an arrest was made.
The incident occurred after police were dispatched to the Manitoba Hydro building in the 400 block of Pandora Avenue West to investigate a report of a break-in in progress.
Several cruisers responded, along with the police canine unit, and a suspect was tracked to the 800 block of Kernaghan Avenue. That's where the confrontation took place.
As in all cases of officer-involved shootings, the investigation is being led by the homicide unit.
