Injured boaters taken to hospital

FIVE boaters were taken to hospital after they were thrown into Lake of the Woods when their five-metre Bayliner was struck by another boat about 4 a.m. on Sunday, Ontario Provincial Police in Kenora reported Monday.

Sean Goold, 25, of Kenora faces two charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm.

The male operator of the Bayliner and two passengers were taken to Lake of the Woods District Hospital, while two female passengers, ages 22 and 20, from Kenora, were taken to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.

The Bayliner was travelling from the area of Safeway docks to Keewatin, Ont., when it was struck by the other vessel.

The occupants of the Bayliner were thrown into the water and the vessel sank, the OPP reported.
