Inquest into senior's death after shoving at care home

An inquest has been called into the death of Frank Alexander, an 87-year-old personal-care home resident who died days after a fellow resident shoved him to the floor.

On March 24, 2011, paramedics rushed to Parkview Place on Edmonton Street to attend to Alexander, who was bleeding profusely from his left ear. He was taken to Health Sciences Centre, where he was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. He died four days later.

A police investigation revealed Alexander fell backwards striking his head on the floor after being pushed.

Joseph McLeod, 70, an Alzheimer's patient, was charged with manslaughter. However, he was found unfit to stand trial.
