Jorgenson case delayed

Businessman Daren Jorgenson appeared in court Thursday morning only to request the matter be put off to November.

Jorgenson, who is facing charges of failing to submit provincial sales taxes and failing to appear in court, sat in a court room for about an hour before leaving just as the matter was being raised.

Crown attorney Sean Brennan told the court Jorgenson had provided him a note with the name of his lawyer and requested the matters be put over to Nov. 3. It was granted.

Manitoba Finance charged Jorgenson in the spring with two counts each of failing to file monthly tax returns and failing to submit the sales taxes he collected at the Royal Albert Arms and at the Vault Salon and Spa during a seven-month period from September 2010 to April 2011.

Jorgenson was also charged with failing to appear in court on Aug. 4.

Winnipeg police arrested Jorgenson Aug. 24 at his home on the failing to appear charge and he was released later the same day after signing a promise to appear in court.

Jorgenson did not make a statement to the court before leaving and refused a request for an interview with the Free Press.
