Knight rides to rescue chivalry
Cross-country trek promotes valour

Call him the antidote to modern snark and sarcasm.
Vincent Gabriel Kirouac, 22, from Quebec City, is a modern-day knight on a cross-country journey to promote chivalry.
Dressed as a knight and with his trusty steed, Coeur de Lion, Kirouac hit the streets of Winnipeg this weekend and then made it on to Elie by Sunday night.
For the next two weeks, he'll be walking and riding across the rest of Manitoba towards the Saskatchewan border.
Contrary to much public lamenting and the existence of some online commenters, Kirouac said the art of chivalry isn't dead.
"Chivalry is actually in Elie," said Kirouac, who's worked as a horse trainer and said he was knighted by a bishop in Quebec before he departed. "It is a symbol of something that is really incorruptible."
Kirouac, who's engaged, said he began his journey in April from Saint-Pac¥me, Que. A sword and helmet made by a blacksmith are part of his look.
He's scheduled to finish in British Columbia by mid-September and the trip is to promote the old-fashioned art. "When you talk to people and when you go to pay at the grocery store... you're paying to somebody (who) is alive, and having emotions and feelings," said Kirouac.
"When you can just realize that and talk with them and just smile at them, and be happy with them, even if they make any mistakes... well, it makes a huge difference in that (person's) world."
Kirouac said so far he's received kind treatment from the drivers of Winnipeg, who've made efforts not to scare Coeur de Lion.
"They are chivalrous," he said. "I haven't seen anybody who's mad." More information on Kirouac's trip is on the website chevalierautourdumonde.com .
