MANITOBA'S only French weekly newspaper will be generating headlines on its own as part of celebrations to mark its 100th anniversary.
La Liberté announced Friday its plans to commemorate the milestone with a series of events in 2013 that will see the francophone community open its doors for a party.
Among the projects to celebrate La Liberté will be a film for Radio-Canada detailing the role the newspaper has played in building a Franco-Manitoban identity, digitizing all editions of La Liberté since 1913, an exhibition tracing its history and a national bilingual journalism conference. The gala in June will feature NHL star Jonathan Toews, who will talk about La Liberté's role in shaping his identity as a Franco-Manitoban athlete.
