EMERGENCY crews rushed to the 500 block of Langside Street on Tuesday afternoon, responding to reports of a shooting.
A woman, who appeared to be in her mid-20s, was carried from a home in a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance, said Corrigan Reid, who lives a block over on Furby Street and attended the scene.
Langside was taped off between Ellice and Sargent avenues as police officers knocked on doors to interview neighbours.
The street was crowded with about six police cruisers, three ambulances and a police dog unit. The police helicopter hovered overhead.
An initial report at the scene said there was a double shooting, but that could not be immediately confirmed.
One local youth worker said he was "90 per cent positive" the shooting was gang-related as the Indian Posse, Mad Cowz and Manitoba Warriors are engaged in a turf war.
One of the problems in the neighbourhood has been the escalation of weapons used for protection, the worker said. Three years ago, most people carried bear or pepper spray. Today, it's guns.
