Handout A house formerly used to grow marijuana is now back on the market.

FOR sale: Four-year-old "executive" home, 1,817 square feet, three bedrooms and three baths in quiet development in the country. List price, $279,900.

By the way, it used to be a grow-op.

Acting for the first time under new legislation, the province seized the swanky home under the Criminal Property Forfeiture Act after Mounties last July found more than 580 marijuana plants in it.

Now it's putting it up for sale.

The home is on a 1.41 acre lot at 8 Riviera Dr. in Lake Riviera Estates five kilometres east of Ste. Anne.

"Crime shouldn't pay," Attorney General Andrew Swan said in a news release trumpeting the provincial law allowing the government to seize the house. He said proceeds from the sale of the property will be used to combat crime.

The province said it is now pursuing claims involving seized cash, vehicles and homes collectively worth $6.6 million.
