Rates for province's bonds
FINANCE Minister Stan Struthers has announced the interest rates for Manitoba Builder Bonds Series 13, on sale May 22 to June 5 throughout the province.
Rates on 2012 bonds are:
- Five-year floating-rate bonds: 1.75 per cent for the initial year. These bonds will pay interest on an annual basis and will be redeemable annually. The interest rate on the bonds will be reset annually.
- Three-year fixed-rate bonds: 1.85 per cent. These bonds will pay interest on an annual basis and will not be redeemable prior to maturity.
- Five-year fixed-rate bonds: two per cent. Purchasers can choose either annual or compound interest and the bonds will not be redeemable prior to maturity.

Standoff with knives resolved
A 48-year-old man was taken to a health centre after a standoff in Morden Thursday night.
Staff at the Boston Pizza restaurant contacted the Morden Police Service at about 5:50 p.m. after a man holding two knives had an issue with his bill, and allegedly threatened employees. Officers who responded to the call said they tried to speak to the man, but he didn't give up the knives, leading them to contact negotiators.
Police said more than two hours of negotiations followed, before the man surrendered. Officials from the Winkler Police Service and Morden Fire and Rescue assisted.
As part of the response, Highway 3 east of Morden was closed.
The 48-year-old man was taken into custody and went to the Boundary Trails Regional Health Centre. Police are continuing to investigate, and mental-health factors are believed to played a role.
