Local teen's art to hang in Jerusalem hospital

A Dominion City-area teen was honoured in front of 700 people in Toronto on Sunday after her art was chosen to hang in a Jerusalem hospital.

Georgia Rachelle Burns, 16, was a winner in the Windows to the World -- Kids Helping Kids contest held last fall.

The picture she drew, depicting a butterfly at night, is among 25 winning submissions that will hang in the newly built Herzog Hospital children's respiratory wing in Jerusalem, scheduled to open this spring.

It was one of more than 13,000 pictures submitted by children ages four to 19 from across Canada.

"It's amazing," Burns said after collecting a personalized trophy. "I was really surprised. I didn't think it was good enough to win anything."

She was stunned with her success, and as she unwrapped the gift she received, she said the real gift is having her picture hung in the hospital.

"I put butterflies in the picture because they are beautiful and represent freedom," she said. "They are peaceful."
