Man attacked downtown

SEVERAL people jumped out of a van on Carlton Street and seriously assaulted another man Wednesday, a witness said.

City police confirmed a man was found lying on the ground in the 200 block of Carlton around 8 a.m. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition but was later upgraded to stable condition.

A witness, who would not give his name, said the assault was vicious. "Somebody got his head stomped into the sidewalk by two guys in a van," he said. "I know they stomped him really bad and I noticed he wasn't breathing until they gave him CPR."

Police arrested three people in a vehicle Wednesday.

A man and two women are in custody.
