Man blames break-in on cold

THE residents of a home in Fort Richmond got a rude awakening Saturday morning.

At about 5:45 a.m., homeowners on Allegheny Drive heard their doorbell ringing and someone banging loudly on the back door.

They did not respond to the banging and a short time later, someone smashed the back door and a window with a chair.

The residents called 911 and the intruder, who police said was intoxicated, apologized for breaking in, stating he was cold, before leaving.

A suspect was arrested a short time later without incident. A 33-year-old man is facing charges of break and enter and was detained in custody, police said.
