Martin H. Freedman, QC, C.Arb.

has rejoined Aikins Law after his recent retirement as a Manitoba Court of Appeal judge. Prior to his appointment to the court in July 2002, Freedman carried on an extensive arbitration practice, resolving labour relations and other disputes in the public and private sectors. He will resume his arbitration practice and will also be counsel to the firm in litigation, administrative law, corporate law and business law. Freedman was a partner with Aikins Law starting in 1969 and the firm's managing partner from 1991-2001.

Andrew L. Thompson

a partner with Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP, is now honorary legal counsel of the Manitoba Aerospace Association.

Greg Thomas

has been appointed to the Heritage Canada Foundation board of governors. A historian by training, Thomas has 30 years' experience in cultural resource management with Parks Canada (now retired), where he was involved in the planning, development and operation of national historic sites across Western and Northern Canada. He has played a leadership role in Manitoba's heritage since the 1970s as a member of the Manitoba Historical Society executive, Winnipeg's historic buildings committee and its heritage design committee.

Léo Jr. Nicolas, C.I.H.

has joined Winnipeg Air Testing Inc. as a certified industrial hygienist. Winnipeg Air Testing provides occupational health and residential consulting services to Winnipeg and rural Manitoba.

Sarah Giesbrecht

has joined Painchaud Performance Group (PPG HR) as an executive assistant/HR consultant. Giesbrecht has a bachelor of business administration.

Carol Kemp

has joined 6P Marketing as associate creative director. Kemp is an award-winning design professional with 30 years of creative experience in all aspects of the marketing/communications industry. She most recently held associate creative director and creative director roles with Blacksheep Strategy and BCG Communications.

Vivian E. Rachlis

has rejoined the partnership of Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP after five years as senior associate general counsel at Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. Rachlis practised with TDS Law from 1987 through 2007 and has resumed her private practice of law in providing strategic legal advice and representation to companies, agencies, professional bodies, tribunals and individuals, in particular in dispute resolution.

Bison Transport

was honoured at the American Trucking Association's 2012 Safety & Human Resources national conference with the President's Trophy for outstanding safety record and programs. For the second consecutive year, Bison attained the lowest U.S. Department of Transportation recordable accident rate in its division and category. Bison also received the Safety Improvement Award for its reduction in workplace accidents and injuries.

and members received industry awards at the Real Estate Institute of Canada's 2012 AGM/conference in Calgary: J. A. Weber Award -- Darrell Jones; Bentall Kennedy Excellence Award -- Sheri Griffiths; Real Estate Management Council Member of the Year Award -- Sandra (Caputo) Carlson-Edwards; Association of the Year Award -- Manitoba Housing & Renewal Corp.; Chapter Initiative of the Year Award - Real Estate Institute of Manitoba; Chapter of the Year Award, Small Chapter -- Real Estate Institute of Manitoba; Institute of Real Estate Management Outstanding Canadian Chapter Award -- Real Estate Institute of Manitoba.
