THE Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba on Monday renewed lobbying the province for recognition as a regulated health profession.
The association joins the Paramedics Association of Manitoba, which filed a request in April with Health Minister Theresa Oswald. If accepted, paramedics and massage therapists will be the 23rd and 24th regulated health professions in Manitoba.
Massage Therapy Association executive director George Fraser said the public will be better protected if massage therapists become regulated health professionals.
"Massage therapy has always been on the outside looking in," he said. "Anyone can hang up a shingle and call themselves a massage therapist."
