Missing falcon still AWOL

A speckled falcon that's been AWOL from its post at the Brady Road landfill is still missing despite frequent sightings reported to its worried owners in the last two weeks.

Vancouver Island-based Pacific Northwest Raptors uses falcons in Winnipeg but the one that flew the coop isn't hanging around long enough to be tracked down.
Posters are up around the city, with a photo of the bird, contact numbers and a description that reads: "This bird will have leather straps, a wire antenna and a bell attached to his ankles. He will seem very tame."
Raptors spokesman Darryl Klippenstein said it's unlikely the falcon would have tried to fly back home to Victoria.
"I'm not sure he'd know his way," Klippenstein said. "He's still out there flying around, we hope."
Klippenstein said he's taking "lots" of tips and leads but so far they've come up empty.
The bird was posted at the landfill at the beginning of May after it was transported to Winnipeg from Raptors' home base in Victoria.
Anyone who spots the falcon is asked to be cautious approaching it and to call Raptors contacts Robyn at 250-732-2024, Klippenstein at 250-516-9195 or Jordan at 204-471-4525.
