There's another twist in the search for a missing Ontario man whose vehicle was found abandoned in Winnipeg last week.
Windsor police have now issued a Canada-wide warrant for Brandon Wheeler, revealing on Wednesday he is wanted in connection with an ongoing sexual-assault investigation in that province.
Wheeler, 30, was last seen April 15 in Windsor. He was reported missing the following day after he didn't show up for work. Family members publicly expressed concern for his well-being, telling local media outlets they believe him to be suicidal and possibly headed west. They even set up a Facebook page filled with updates and information.
Last Friday, Winnipeg police announced Wheeler's 2010 Jeep Wrangler had been located in the city's west end. On Wednesday, Windsor police said the licence plates and VIN tag had been removed from the vehicle before it was abandoned. As well, they said Wheeler may be hiding out in hotels or hostels in Winnipeg or other communities.
Anyone with information on Wheeler is asked to contact Winnipeg police at 204-986-6250, Windsor police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830, or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
