Police shut down pot operation
A marijuana grow operation valued at more than $900,000 has been shut down by police after a raid.
Winnipeg police said on Saturday its tactical support team executed a search warrant at a house in the 400 block of Burrows Avenue on Friday.
Police said once inside they found a large multi-stage marijuana grow operation with 812 plants worth $909,440, as well as 176 grams of marijuana valued at $1,760, grow operation equipment worth $7,500, and $580 in cash.
A 47-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman have been arrested and face charges of producing and possessing marijuana for the purposes of trafficking.
The pair have been released on a promise to appear.
Police cadets snag suspect
ALERT Winnipeg Police Service cadets are being credited with helping snag a man accused of breaking into a car.
Winnipeg police said on Saturday that cadets and officers responded to a call about a man spotted smashing the window of a car parked downtown and grabbing an electronic device and other items before running.
Police said the cadets found the suspect and called police, who took him into custody near the 100 block of Smith Street.
Police said the suspect was found with break-in tools.
While being arrested, the suspect allegedly threatened two police officers.
Neal Baptiste, 35, has been charged with possessing stolen property, possessing break-in instruments, and two counts of uttering threats to kill or cause bodily harm. He has been detained in the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
Free inspections offered

The Winnipeg Police Service's vehicle inspection section and Manitoba Public Insurance are offering free motor vehicle inspections at the MPI Service Centre at 420 Pembina Hwy., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Police said it is being done as a public service and they promise they will not issue offence notices or do any followups for defects and infractions.
