Mother robbed on family walk

A young woman who was walking with her children Thursday morning was robbed by a teenaged girl who grabbed jewelry from the woman's top.

Winnipeg Police said the 31-year-old woman was with her two children -- both under the age of five -- near Selkirk Avenue and Arlington Street at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, when she was approached by a teenaged girl who asked her for a cigarette.

The girl followed the family and a short time later grabbed two pieces of jewelry from the woman's top and ran off. Police found the girl nearby.

A 17-year-old girl has been charged with two counts of robbery. She is being held in custody.
