Mould discovered in two more arenas

TWO more city arenas have tested positive for mould.

City of Winnipeg officials said environmental testing has found mould in St. Vital and Roland Michener arenas.

However, the city has decided not to close the two facilities since an environmental consultant has determined airborne spore levels were at or below typical mould levels found outdoors in Winnipeg during the summertime.

Last week, City of Winnipeg officials closed Maginot Arena until the end of December for mould remediation. Stains were first spotted on the ceiling in early November, and subsequent testing confirmed the presence of mould at Maginot. Inspectors will now test the air quality in all 16 city-owned or operated arenas and 11 community-centre arenas.

Mould was also confirmed at Bertrand Arena, which will remain open for the rest of the hockey season.
