FREE Press multimedia editor Tyler Walsh has been named one of the rising stars of the North American newspaper industry.
This month's edition of Editor and Publisher has as its cover story a look at how new blood is pumping renewed life into the heart of the industry. And included on the trade magazine's list of the Top 25 under 35 is Walsh, a 30-year-old grad of Red River College's creative communications program.
"I think receiving this nod is a testament to the working environment of the Free Press, particularly the way I've been given the leeway to try new and innovative things to move our news gathering into the digital age," said Walsh who joined the newsroom in 2008.
In his time at the Free Press, Walsh has done everything from training a new team of videographers to producing full-length documentaries to livestreaming local news and election night coverage.
Editor and Publisher said Walsh is part of a youthful brigade who are "tough, inventive, resourceful, resilient and armed with state-of-the-art technology marching to the front line of the new media battlefield."
