Tyler St. Paul, 21, who was from Lake Manitoba First Nation, died on May 16 at about 9:30 a.m. at the jail.

An autopsy has concluded St. Paul died because of blunt force trauma.

The eight men, who were to appear in court in Winnipeg on Thursday, are: Emile Hugh Williams, 22, Eriberto Alexander Soldat, 18, Eric Edward Plante, 20, Joey Richard Delaronde, 25, Daniel Christopher Dumas, 19, Nathan Florian Allard, 19, Brent Edward Houle, 18, and a 17-year-old youth.

RCMP said all eight men are reported to have gang affiliations.
