National centre key to arrest in child-porn case

A national agency fighting child exploitation is being credited with catching a local man accused of posting pornographic images of children on the Internet.

Winnipeg police said the WPS Internet child-exploitation (ICE) unit was informed in January by the National Child Exploitation Centre in Ottawa that a Winnipeg resident had been posting pornographic images of children.

Winnipeg police launched an investigation that resulted in a search warrant Tuesday for a residence in the northwest part of the city.

Police said a 43-year-old man has been arrested and is facing charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.

The man has been released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
