NDP MP Martin mum on settling lawsuit

  • Print

PAT Martin has stayed uncharacteristically quiet about a report he's looking to settle a libel lawsuit.

The Winnipeg Centre NDP MP was in Winnipeg Tuesday and didn't respond to Free Press requests for comment over the lawsuit by RackNine, an Edmonton company.

The $5-million lawsuit was a result of remarks Martin made about the company's involvement in robocalls made during the 2011 federal election.

Elections Canada is looking into the person who used the company's services to send misleading messages to people about where to vote, but has said the company itself is not under investigation.

Martin has already launched a fundraising website toward his legal costs.
