Pair charged with several break-ins

RCMP have charged two people with a string of break-ins at businesses north of the city.

Sgt. Line Karpish said police have charged a 33-year-old Stonewall man and a 17-year-old boy from the RM of Rosser with five business and one residential break-in between Nov. 3 and 19.

The burglaries were in Stonewall, Teulon, Selkirk and Lac du Bonnet.

"Items stolen in these break-ins include liquor, food, two laptops and extensive damages to properties," said Karpish.

Three separate attempts to stop and pursue the suspects' pickup truck ended with them escaping Nov. 14, 15 and 19, Karpish said.

Thanks to evidence including video footage at some of the businesses, police arrested the two suspects Thursday at a residence on Road 8E in the RM of Rosser.

"Both were observed with property belonging to the homeowner while walking towards the pickup truck," Karpish noted.

They face seven counts of break and enter, seven counts of mischief and three counts of flight from police. They were remanded in custody.

The investigation is being led by the Stonewall RCMP in collaboration with the Teulon, Selkirk, and Lac du Bonnet detachments and with the assistance of the RCMP Winnipeg major crime unt.
