Pair held after pot bust at Via Rail station

POLICE have arrested two men from Ontario after a drug bust at the Via Rail station on Main Street.

The bust happened Thursday about 10:35 p.m. after police received a tip. Officers from the street-crime and K-9 units found two large suitcases containing about 23 kilograms of marijuana in the baggage car of an eastbound train.

On the train, police arrested two suspects they allege to be in control of the marijuana, which has an estimated street value of about $150,000. Police also seized about $2,400 in cash.

Staff Sgt. Max Waddell, head of the street-crime unit, said illicit drugs aren't often transported by passenger train.

Allan Norman Caswell, 24, and Christopher Mario Mazzuca, 22, are charged with trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, possessing a substance for the purpose of trafficking and possessing proceeds of crime.

Both men are in custody.
