Pair of canoeists rescued on lake

Hey there, time traveller!

The Canadian Coast Guard rescued two canoeists Sunday afternoon who were blocked by ice on Lake Winnipeg.

The canoeists, 19- and 21-year-old men, were on the lake near Grindstone provincial park. When they failed to return, the RCMP and the coast guard were alerted about 4:30 p.m.

Windy conditions caused ice on Lake Winnipeg to move and block access to the shore. The coast guard was able to manoeuvre through the ice and rescue the paddlers. No injuries were sustained.
