Fundraiser for Pennies
It's Christmas in spring with a dinner and fashion show being held in support of Pennies from Heaven. Peppertree Fashions, a clothing boutique in Whyte Ridge, along with event partners Wendy MacMillan of Arbonne International, Crystal Sound and D-Jay's Restaurant and Lounge, is holding its The New You spring gala dinner and fashion show at the restaurant on May 8. All proceeds will go to the Winnipeg Free Press' Pennies from Heaven to help Winnipeg Harvest at this time of year. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at Peppertree at 123-C Scurfield Blvd.

Walking for ALS
The summer's first Walk for ALS will be held in Whitemouth on May 25. The event, which raises funds to find a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis as well as provide support services to families effected by ALS, starts with registration at Whitemouth School at 10 a.m. After that, walks will take place in Winnipeg and Belmont on June 2 and Hamiota on June 10. Dinner helps school
A fundraising dinner is being held by St. Aidan's Christian School on May 5. The school follows the Manitoba curriculum but also is committed to meeting the emotional and spiritual needs of students. For more information, call Don at 784-2600 or 771-7682.
Remembrance ceremony
The Fort Garry Women's Resource Centre is holding an honouring and remembrance ceremony for motherless daughters. The ceremony, for women whose mothers have died, is being held on May 9. Space is limited so pre-registration is required. Call 477-1123 for more information, including the time.
Win tickets
You can join or rejoin Community Living Winnipeg and win a pair of tickets to a fashion show. The not-for-profit organization, which helps Winnipeggers with intellectual disabilities, will put the names of families or individuals who join by May 31 into a draw for its sixth annual Fall for Fashion show on Sept. 14. Run to help children
By running you can help special needs children ride therapeutic horses. The 22nd annual Physio Fit Run, named by Canadian Running Magazine as the top 10 kilometre race in Manitoba, is being held on May 12, starting at the Assiniboine Park duck pond. There is also a five km fun run/walk and a three km walk. There are thousands of dollars worth of prizes, including mountain bikes and a Garmin GPS watch. Entry fee for the 10 km run is $30 for individuals or $40 after May 4. Deadline for early registration is May 4. All proceeds go to help Manitoba Riding for the Disabled Association, the only certified therapeutic riding program in the province. Magic show fundraiser
Money -- and maybe even a rabbit -- will magically appear to help Variety, the children's charity, on April 29. A Family Day of Magic is being held by the Magic Club of Winnipeg at the Manitoba Theatre for Young People. Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased in advance at Toad Hall Toys, by calling Carey at 772-8837 or at the door.
Home lottery for hospital
You could win a house and help the Health Sciences Centre. The hospital's foundation is holding its annual home lottery with a $1.5 million riverfront home in Charleswood as the grand prize, and 5,834 other prizes are also up for grabs. Tickets are $100 apiece, three for $250 or five for $375, with the early bird deadline June 14 and the first draw on June 26. To order, go to HSCHomeLottery.com or call 1-866-246-4723.
Sewing fundraiser
An evening of theatre and music is being held on May 5 to help a sewing program for new immigrant women. The West Central Women's Resource Centre's How Solo Can You Go? is featuring the one-woman play Baby Blues with Leigh-Anne Kehler, a sneak peak of Kim Zeglinski's upcoming Winnipeg Fringe play Stretchmarks and music by singer-songwriter Harmony Parent. The centre's sewing program helps women build skills while meeting people. Tickets for the event, being held in the West End Cultural Centre, are $15 and available at the WCWRC office at 640 Ellice Ave., McNally Robinson and the WECC.
Police tee off
The 10th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Golf Tournament is being held in support of Special Olympics on June 11. The tournament tees off at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club with registration at 11 a.m. Tickets cost $180 per person and include golf, power cart and dinner. Raise a roof
A Bud Spud and Steak fundraiser is being held on May 4 to pay for a new roof for the first Ukrainian church built in Canada. The Friends of Historic St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox, which is located near Gardenton, are holding the fundraising event at the Canad Inn Polo Park's Calypso Room starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person, and the evening features silent auction prizes and a 50/50 draw.
