Manitoba Riding for the Disabled is currently looking for children with disabilities who want to receive horseback-riding therapy. Bowl to help dogs
You can bowl to help rescue or clip dogs. The Professional Pet Groomers Association of Manitoba is holding a bingo-bowling fundraiser on April 27, to raise funds for its continuing education fund and for the Before the Bridge Senior Dog Rescue. Kidney research will be helped thanks to the Hope Affair -- a gala event honouring Dr. David Rush on April 12. The fundraiser, which is being presented by the Manitoba branch of the Kidney Foundation of Canada and the Canadian Society of Nephrology, is at the Fort Garry Hotel and will feature live entertainment and a live auction of aboriginal artwork. South African judge speaks
South African Justice Albie Sachs -- a lifelong human rights activist -- is making his only Canadian stop in Winnipeg on April 11. Sachs, whose work has served as the model for Canada's Truth and Reconciliation process, is the featured speaker at the annual Sol and Florence Kanee Distinguished Lecture Series, sponsored by the Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada. The 17th annual RBC Cruisin' Down the Crescent, which raises funds for the Children's Rehabilitation Foundation, is being held June 9, but April 1 is the first day to register. Post-secondary students and young professionals can get job experience in the world of non-profits thanks to the Winnipeg Foundation. The foundation has launched a fellowship program that sees applicants propose a major project, which they work on in partnership with a non-profit agency with up to $10,000 in funding.
