Pickup truck collides with semi-trailer, killing driver

A 51-year-old man died in a head-on collision east of Beausejour on Monday morning, RCMP say.

The man was driving a blue Dodge Dakota pickup truck on Highway 44 when his vehicle collided with a semi-trailer truck loaded with wooden roof trusses at around 11:30 a.m., said Sgt. Stu Evans.

The semi immediately burst into flames, Evans said.

The man driving the pickup died at the scene, while the driver of the semi scambled from his rig and was taken to Beausejour Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Evans said the truck drove into the path of the semi.

Police had to divert traffic around the area onto a nearby service road for the afternoon. Beausejour is 46 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

RCMP continue to investigate the crash.
