Police ask public for info on fatal beating in St. B

The investigation into the Dec. 14 killing of a St. Boniface man has hit a wall.

Winnipeg police issued a plea Friday morning for anyone with information about the late-night attack on Orland Joseph Adams.

Adams, 49, was attacked in his home in the 500 block of St. Catherine Street about 9:45 p.m. Dec. 14. He was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died of his injuries.

Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Eric Hofley said it's believed one or more people had gone to Adams' back door. An argument escalated into an attack.

Hofley said investigators believe Adams knew his attackers and his death may be related to his involvement in the drug culture.

Police released a photo of Adams, hoping someone would recognize him and know of his activities.

"When people are involved in the drug culture, they deal with lots of different people," Hofley said. "Maybe someone didn't realize who Mr. Adams was, but had dealt with him in the days prior to his death."

Neighbours contacted by the Free Press said they heard nothing unusual the night Adams was attacked. He died three days before his 50th birthday.

In an email, his wife, Sheena Dunsmore, said he was self-employed for several years, operating a demolition and hauling business. Before that, he also worked in a senior position at a call centre.
