Pellet gun pointed at cops
AN 18-year-old man who pointed a pellet gun at police has been arrested.
Winnipeg police responded to a complaint of noise from a party in the 100 block of Walnut Street around 11:15 p.m. Saturday. Officers learned a man might be armed with a handgun.
They called in the tactical support team, canine unit and the police helicopter. Officers approached the man in the area of Maryland Street and Westminster Avenue. They said he pointed a handgun in the direction of the officers and their cruiser car. He did not fire the gun and fled on foot.
Police made an arrest near Purcell Avenue and Maryland Street around 1:10 a.m. and recovered a black, semi-automatic pellet gun.
The 18-year-old suspect is in custody and faces several weapons charges.
Drugs found on fleeing pair
TWO men face numerous charges after leading police on a chase through the Maples.
On Saturday, officers stopped a Ford Escort at Jefferson Avenue and Sheppard Street just before 2 p.m. The driver initially complied, then suddenly fled in the auto.
Police said the chase reached speeds of 80 km/h but officers stopped the pursuit due to the vehicle's disregard for safety. About 10 minutes later, two men abandoned it and fled on foot at Marlow Court and Mapleglen Drive.
Police arrested two men who both possessed a quantity of prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia.
A 29-year-old man is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from a police officer, breach of probation, driving while disqualified and two counts of possessing a substance for the purpose of trafficking.
A 37-year-old man is charged with two counts of possessing a substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Stabbing victim stable
A 34-year-old man is in stable condition after he was stabbed early Sunday.
Police said the stabbing occurred about 6:30 a.m. in the area of McKenzie Street and Selkirk Avenue. Officers located a man with injuries to his upper body consistent with stab wounds.He is in stable condition and no arrests have been made.
