Police now offer online crime reports

WINNIPEG residents will have another option when it comes to reporting non-emergency crime -- an online form.

Winnipeg police unveiled their Citizen Online Crime Reporting System Wednesday morning. The form can be filled in on a computer without going downtown or to a police service centre.

Patrol Sgt. Phil Trudeau said it's for non-emergency crimes, including damage to property and vehicles, theft, theft from vehicles and lost property.

Trudeau said all online submissions will be reviewed within three business days and a followup email will be sent containing an occurrence number and a PDF copy of the official report.

If additional information is required, the person making the report will be contacted by an officer.

The form can be accessed through a link on the home page of the Winnipeg Police Service website, or directly at winnipeg.ca/police/coplogic/default.stm
