A recent poll found 45 per cent of Winnipeggers would support Judy Wasylycia-Leis if she ran for mayor. Here's what our readers had to say about that.
This is only a poll and we have seen lately how accurate they have been.
However, no surprise on Katz. If he chooses to run we will see the first incumbent go down in flames in my lifetime.
Lets hope the numbers on JWL are wrong. She was as impressive as dishwater the last election with an absolute lack of vision.
Steeves is just as scary -- a former Katz lap dog who was more interested in protecting his city seat while he took a run at the legislature. He gets in and it is business as usual at city hall.
Fielding -- see last sentence in previous paragraph.
Havixbeck? How did she ever make it to city hall?
Bowman -- the great unknown and I am only aware of him by reputation. Best of the bunch thus far as he comes without baggage.
Not much here to get excited about. What is surprising about the poll is the 9% who would likely support Katz's re-election. Who are they? I think they must be either snowbirds who spend time as his next door neighbours in Arizona or employees of a real estate development firm that shall remain nameless. As for the others named as candidates... ho hum!
Heaven forbid. Winnipeg needs someone forward-thinking, honest and open, and with strong leadership skills. Winnipeg is a great place to live but it could be so much more. It's a city that doesn't know it's a city. Small town politics and small town thinking keep us in a rut. In my opinion, Judy W-L is too wishy-washy and stuck in the Dark Ages. I just don't think of her as a leader and I shudder to think of her business skills...
I guess people expected Sam to use his business skills to benefit the city. Haha, boy, were they ever wrong.
What have you learned from Sam Katz at city hall? Or Susan Thompson, who was, in my opinion, tied with Katz as worst Winnipeg mayor ever.
Those who complain about Katz and eschew Judy Wasylycia-Leis will likely vote for another business person just like Katz or Thompson. Some people never learn.
No Judy, no NDP. What has she accomplished? What experience? Not that the present mayor and councilors are any better. But please, someone middle of the road? With some responsibility, no airy-fairy ideas. And honesty? Too much to ask?
Good lord. If Judy Wasylycia-Leis were to become mayor, we might as well just burn this province to the ground. She would simply be taking her orders from Greg Selinger's provincial NDP overlords, and raise taxes each and every year to swell the city's already bloated bureaucracy. Has this city learned nothing from the epic failure that is the Manitoba NDP?
Say what you will about Katz. He's definitely mired in scandal now, but for the most part he's run the city pretty competently. He's at least made an effort to keep taxes down, as opposed to gleefully raising them every year. JWL would be raising taxes every single year just to fork over more money to her Union pals at NDP HQ.
JWL would just be more same old same old. I recall her campaigning last time at the Folk Fest, which was highly inappropriate in my view, being led around by the chronic backbencher Rob Altemeyer. She seemed like she'd be a great to have as a grandma not a mayor. Bring out the broom, it's time for new fresh faces at all levels.
"Probe found 32 per cent of respondents thought Katz should run again..."
Now THAT is downright frightening!
