PSB could house civic offices, mayor muses

THE Public Safety Building could be used to house city offices after the Winnipeg Police Service moves out of the Princess Street structure, Mayor Sam Katz speculates.

The police are planning to move into new headquarters next year at the former Canada Post building on Graham Avenue. The purchase and renovation of that building cost $194 million.

The potential sale of the PSB is limited by an 1875 caveat on the land, donated to the city on condition it remain a public property.

City offices may fulfil the terms of the caveat, Katz mused to reporters, responding to a question about the future of the building and the adjacent Civic Centre Parkade, which has been closed since late August due to structural concerns.
