Help with bill after card stolen on flight

MY husband, granddaughter and I returned on an Air Canada flight from Toronto, arriving in Winnipeg about 10 a.m. on Aug 18.

We decided to go out for an early lunch at Joey's Only restaurant on Pembina Highway. When I opened my wallet to pay for the lunch, I discovered my MasterCard and all my cash except for $26 was missing. Our bill was for $31.

Needless to say I was quite upset to discover my card was missing. What was I to do, since I was short $5? My husband and granddaughter didn't have any money.

The employee was looking at us as if we were trying to pull a fast one.

A young man standing there came to our rescue and handed over the $5 to cover the amount. I was flustered about it all and although I did say thank you, he left before I got his name. But I was most thankful for his kindness to a senior lady.

I subsequently discovered the card must have been stolen from my purse while we were on the flight and close to $2,000 was transacted that morning in Winnipeg before I discovered the card was missing.

A note of caution: Be careful what is stored in your bag under the seat when flying.

Starbucks staff to the rescue

I was driving north on Pembina Highway when my car stopped on Aug. 30. I was in the middle lane in rush hour.

Being a senior, I needed someone to help get the car into the parking lot. I asked for help at the nearby Starbucks.

Thanks to the man who got my car's gear transmission into drive when I couldn't.

Finally, we got the car into the parking lot. I called CAA to get a tow truck. They arrived two hours later with a tow truck from Anola.

These young people from Starbucks calmed me down and put my groceries in the fridge and freezer. Thanks a million Michelle, Shannon and Lucas for helping me.

Lighting their fire

WE were camping at the Red River Campground in East Grand Forks in late August.

We were pleasantly surprised to find three bundles of firewood left on our picnic table.

We believe the kindness was from our fellow Manitobans across the street.

We thank them very much and may we be able to return the favour someday.

People at my restaurant are amazing

IT'S days like this I'm proud to meet amazing people in this world.

Another ordinary day at my restaurant, Comodo Chinese Restaurant, and a couple comes in -- her name was Diane, I forget his -- eats, has some wine and overhears another customer telling me he can only afford so much. So the couple ended up paying for that man's meal, not even knowing the gentleman.

People amaze me.
