Remembrance Day rules
Shopping and banking: Because Remembrance Day falls on a Sunday for the first time since 2007, retailers have to follow special Remembrance Day rules that prohibit them from opening before 1 p.m. and force them to close by 6 p.m. at the latest. Banks will be closed on Nov. 12.
Entertainment: The province's Remembrance Day legislation also prevents businesses that sell tickets, including movie theatres, concerts, theatre and sports events from opening before 1 p.m.
Employee pay: Anyone working on Remembrance Day has to be paid one and a half times the regular rate of pay for all the hours they work. For more information go to www.manitoba.ca/labour/standards .
Government: All government offices will be closed on Monday. All Winnipeg public library branches will be closed on Sunday, but open on Monday, except for the Sir William Stephenson Library.
Garbage and recycling: Residents with garbage and recycling pickup on Mondays are asked to put their rolling carts outside before 7 a.m., because they will be picked up. Next year, when Remembrance Day falls on a weekday, there will be no pickup until the next day, but that doesn't happen when Remembrance Day falls on a Sunday.
