Scene of killing 'a very bad place': neighbour

  • Print

North End residents say an Aberdeen Avenue home -- where a man was badly beaten early Thursday morning and later died -- is the scourge of the neighbourhood.

Residents said the home at 343 Aberdeen Ave. is the scene of regular night-long parties where police and paramedics are routinely dispatched.

"There are parties there almost every night," said one neighbour, who asked not to be identified. "Police and ambulance are there all the time. It's a very bad place.

"Lots of trouble there."

Leroy George Ross, 38, was badly beaten at the Aberdeen residence early Thursday morning during one of the parties.

Police allege Ross was attacked by three women inside the house, with the attack spilling into the backyard, where a man joined the women as they beat Ross.

Police said the attackers went back inside and rejoined the party, leaving Ross lying in the backyard where he was found at around 10:30 a.m. Thursday by a police officer on a neighbourhood beat patrol.

Ross was taken to hospital in critical condition and died of his injuries early Friday morning.

It was the city's 25th homicide of 2012.

Police said they are familiar with the residence but would not elaborate.

Ross and his attackers were friends, police said.

Yellow police tape still hung around the property's backyard Friday afternoon. A patrol car was parked in the laneway.

The house, a rental property, is located near the intersection with Aikins Street, one block south of Redwood Avenue and two short blocks from Main Street.

Linda Margaret McDoughall, 35, Debbie Rose Redskye, 42, Mary Sue Harper, 37, and Swanson Annanias Ross, 42, are charged with manslaughter.

All four were being held in custody.
